The History

Join us as modern technology allows us to keep you updated about all our going’s on as Felix and Oli do a lap of the UK on their motorcycles.

We’ll be updating from an iPhone and a Treo, so bear with us as this is all a bit of a test.

We leave London on 14th July, and will head straight up to Kinross. From there, we’ll head for John O’Groats, Fort William, Cumbria, Wales, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Land’s End, then along the South Coast to Hastings and back to London. About 2100 miles in ten days.

We’ll keep you posted here on all the days events, and hopefully suss how to send photos to the blog.

In the Spring on May 2007 Oli found himself in sat in the living room of Felix’s apartment in Leipzig, they’d just come back from a friend’s wedding and talk turned to biking. Oli and Felix met one balmy summer in 1997 whilst rennovating a Cathedral in Transylvania (true story) and quickly became firm friends.

Our intrepid twosome, in the bar, the day the Lap was born

‘How’d you fancy a bike trip n sometime?’ one of us asked (I forget whom). Within 2 hours we had a route planned and a date in mind. We would do a Lap of the UK in August of the following year, to give us both time to save and for Oli’s restriction period finished.

We then spoke about it frequently, worked out fuel costs (little did we know that the cost would increase by an ankle grabbing 30% in the meantime, thanks very much Gordon Brown), wrote kits lists, wrote ones, set up facebook groups, Skyped, Emailed, booked accommodation (well, some of it), bought kits (most of it so far) and added destinations. Oh, and it’s not in August any more either.

Felix was very German and efficient, and his bike has been ready for weeks, Oli was slack and English and his bike still isn’t ready.

It’s all about the journey.
